Luke Skywalker by SalvadorTrakal Luke Skywalker by SalvadorTrakal
Old, mature, master, this is what I would like to see in J.J. Abrams take on the film, a more mature Luke Skywalker, with bits of ancient armor, with a peaceful and wise look, patient, and of course, the rise of the sith, we need more old school sith empire, like in the old republic times, leave a comment, let me know if you like the piece and what do you think of J.J. Abrams taking part as a director for our beloved Star Wars!, may the force be with you!!!

From what I've been hearing, it is sounding like the First Order will be like the Galactic Empire mixed with elements of the old Sith Empire, so your wish may be granted (the First Order banner looks kinda like the Sith's old emblems, and Kylo Ren's mask is probably inspired by the ancient Sith masks; such as Revan's)

But I think it would be cool seeing all the sith generals lead legions of stormtroopers, or stand on the bridge of a star destroyer commanding swarms TIE fighters. And then once the armies clear the way the Sith and Jedi infantry would battle it out in mass close lightsaber combat like the Old Republic times.

It would just be very neat seeing the Galactic Empire and Sith Empire mixed together. Which is what I hope the First Order in Episode 7 presents us.

Man, I love this outfit...this is totally like Luke, to be able to get away with a Sith-like look yet stay true to the Light Side.  That seems to be the thing about him...Mace Windu was starting to get there, but it seems to me like Luke has found a way to accept the darker parts of himself truthfully, without falling to them the way the Old Jedi Order assumed would happen if you allowed yourself to be human.

Glad you like it man!
There where a lot of Jedis that went around both sides and even neutral ones, which makes more sense than to go in any of the extremes, I think that a true Jedi should be in the middle, being able to feel instead of suppressing feelings or avoiding them, I think Luke Skywalker was special since he was old when he started his training and he was a good and clear person to begin with.
All this makes for a very interesting conversation!

I feel the same way...the Sith actually do have a point about harnessing the more negative emotions, but the Jedi are right about not being ruled by them.  For instance, I consider anger and wrath to be two separate things.  Anger is justified when someone is ill-treated or subject to injustice or cruelty.  We should not passively accept those things.  Wrath, on the other hand, is anger out of control, anger seeking mindless revenge.  We cross that line frequently in our lives, enough so that I think we barely know what righteous anger is.  I will even be honest and say that I have only felt pure righteous anger a few times in my life, and it was a very strange state when I did--I was very angry at what had been said to me, yet I felt very controlled, and once I had said what needed to be said, it didn't linger.  Wrath lingers, and frankly, I think it's how we most often experience anger.

Similarly, the Jedi are wrong about love.  Part of this, I think, is down to the fact that out-of-universe, we as English speakers put a number of concepts together in the word that do not really belong together.  I tend to think the Greeks got it right in treating it as three complementary but distinct concepts: infatuation, affection towards family and friends, and sacrificial, all-giving love.  Being ruled by infatuation is not a good thing, and yes, even affection towards family and friends can be twisted by fear.  But the third--agape--by its nature, is guided by a higher power and cannot be twisted by fear.  It counters the negatives of the other two and sets them right.  So rather than abolishing love, the right move is instead to focus on attaining its third form so that the other two become sanctified.  The Sith IMO properly recognized that the Jedi were asking something unnatural of their trainees and engaging in unhealthy indoctrination, but they made a mistake as well in setting the first type of love (infatuation/eros, a blind passion) above all else and then weaponizing it.

That was the thing about Luke: IMO Anakin brought balance to the Force not through his own actions, but through fathering Luke and Leia, who learned how to use the Force with a balance towards the light, but at the same time were able to be whole people instead of deciding that critical parts of human nature were evil.  Rather than a Gnostic form of dualism, what we see is an attempt to sanctify the whole being, body, mind, and soul.

Now admittedly, my bias in approaching this question is as a Methodist with strong Eastern Orthodox leanings, so I realize others may see it differently.  That's just my take on it. :)

The Jedi should have a cold mind, which they have, but also a warm heart,  a concept that I think most of the great masters like Yoda or Kenobi understand, specially Qui-gon, that trained Kenobi in its own way, teaching the center structure of the Jedi order and avoiding & adding certain things of himself.
That said a Jedi can't  make good decisions of thins that they haven't experienced or don't understand, it's tricky and very interesting, I still think that all resides in balance and not the extremes, but in the center of it all goodness above all and doing the right thing no matter what.

I would love to see something like this in future films, I remember very good comic books about neutral Jedi and some about their struggle to keep balance, specially in Tales of the Jedi.

Cheers man!!

I'd say Qui-Gon got it more than most of the Jedi.  I don't think Yoda did until much later when he'd had time to reflect on his errors with Anakin and the collapse of the Jedi Order, which I partly agree with the Sith WAS philosophically corrupt.  I recently watched all six movies in a row (they fit together better than a lot of prequel haters think), and I noticed that Kenobi's opinions and beliefs had shifted too while he was on Tatooine.  That, I suspect, was due to what we now know was decades of new training by Qui-Gon.

Yoda still hadn't learned--entirely--on Dagobah.  Kenobi was closer, but I think he was skeptical and needed to see it to believe it.  The truly blatant refutation of the old Jedi philosophy IMO is when Luke runs to Cloud City to rescue his friends, despite warnings that doing so will pretty much inevitably screw everything over...similar to Anakin being denied all connection to his mother.  You can tell Yoda and Kenobi are thinking, "Oh, shit, here we go again."  And of course we see what Anakin's running away resulted in.  Yes, Luke skirts the Dark Side, but that's the thing...it wasn't inevitable and he made it work.  The Sith were right about channeling passions as a source of strength--but wrong about what form of channeling was appropriate (they are amoral at the very best, but most often immoral).

Yes,  I agree on everything you said, and lets add that the Jedi that fled and formed the Sith empire with the actual Sith race, had a lot of resentment for the Jedi Order for banishing them and might be one of the reasons (besides the Sith way of thinking) they invaded later on, they should have reasoned instead of keeping those ugly feelings.
And going back to the center of this, Balance is very important, (as it is in real life)  no one is free of feelings and resides in one and one alone the will to control them and maintain a cold mind when the time comes to make decisions.

In another note I still want to see more Jedi and Sith, specially Sith without the rule of two, there's a cool battle for a movie!

I actually hope J.J will take certain designs and looks from KOTOR and the old days in the Star Wars universe just like this. With the Jedi and Sith using armor parts and look really bad ass, instead of just a simple robe like in the prequel movies and even the original trilogy.

You could call me not a "true" Star Wars fan, considering I like the KOTOR and the written/comic universe of Star Wars more than the original trilogy universe. It just hits me more and grabs more attention for me in general.

Don't take me wrong, I love the original movies and the original Star Wars design but this design sticks out alot more and they actually look battle ready. And I agree that Luke should look more mature and wise in this movie. A lot could have happened between episode 6 & 7 so J.J has freedom for things like this. I just can't wait to see what type of games will surface from J.J Abrahams take on the Star Wars franchise!

Totally agree! The films should get more serious with the genre, the atmosphere, the deatils with the story, the characters...

But still, don't forget that Lucas began with what we call "Trash genre movies", cause they did not even have any hope for success with it)) who knew, that this was what the world just needed!)))

Technically speaking they only made that rule because the dark side has a tendency to oh say turn people into major jerk wads and the whole two million thing not possible however 200 or 2000 that's more plausible because Jedi and with numbers don't tend to be that ridiculous a number but good point it would be awesome to an army of Jedi face of against an army with it would be the most awesome and violent lightshow ever

Oh my... I do think Abrams is taking the saga and legend of Star Wars in the right direction; incorporating everything we would want to see in a direct continuum without simply rehashing everything we already know. This older yet formidable grand master jedi Luke Skywalker is what I would expect from episode VII. Somehow I get the feeling that J.J. will deliver what this science fiction adventure icon needs and more than we dared to dream of.
